My Favorite Light and Modifier Set

Tuesday, March 05, 2024 | By: Christine Chambers for Professional Photographers Association of Massachusetts (PPAM)

As an ambassador for a lighting equipment company, I get to work with a lot of lights and modifiers.  With all of the different uses from the different types, I have one favorite set that for me is the best for both indoor and outdoor use.

Godox AD400 PRO

The pro version gives a much greater color consistency over the standard light versions.  It also allows for up to 390 full power flashes on a single battery charge.

42 inch Quick Octobox with the white interior

By using the white interior on the modifier over a more traditional silver interior and the addition of a beauty dish, the occurrence of specular light is reduced to almost nothing.  If you want a more dynamic light, simply remove one or both of the diffusion panels to use in full beauty dish mode.

The Results

The light is creamy and smooth and one of the best I’ve seen when photographing portraits.  Whether it’s indoors or outdoors, the AD400 in the quick octobox is a magical combination.

PPAM would like to thank Christine for sharing her time and talent in making this blog post for us.
