Weddings: The Perfect Fluff

I think we can all agree that in most cases, the bridesmaids are useless. If they are not looking at themselves in the mirror or off with their boyfriends, then maybe they just don’t know what to do. That’s where we come in and save the day! When the bride is at the bridal shop trying on dresses, they pull the train out to dazzle everyone with its awesomeness, everyone cries and says how beautiful it will be on the wedding day. But then the train spends most of the day crumpled up! Not what anyone pictured. So, it’s our job to make sure we get some great shots that show just how fabulous that train is...and sell more!

Here is the trick to getting the perfect fluff to make the train look like it did in the bridal shop... Find the center of the bottom of the train and hold each side, then pull upwards quickly to get the air under it.  Then guide the train down holding it firmly, but letting that air do the work to puff it out and float into position. Some fabrics are easier than others to work with, so if you have a train that doesn’t fluff, spread the fabric out by hand and then have the bride take one step forward. This will create that nice triangle shape, the way the dress looks walking up the aisle is what you want to replicate. If it doesn’t look right at first, keep fluffing until it does, clients will appreciate your attention to detail. If you are doing formals before the ceremony this is also a great opportunity to ask the maid of honor if she’d like a tutorial so that the train looks good during the ceremony too! Let’s try to help avoid any disappointment with ceremony photos because the MOH flaked out under pressure. All we can do is try...
